History
Women in STEM (or WiSTEM for short) was founded February 2014 by a small group of women in the Physics department at Western Michigan University. We originally formed to be a support group for women solely in the physics department, but then thought, “Why not for women in all the hard sciences?” WiSTEM was born.
Founding Pillars
Our aim is to provide members with a sense of community and to provide an array of tools to advance careers. We are building a network of fellow undergraduate and graduate students, faculty advisors, and industry mentors. Our goal is to promote increased participation and retention of women in the STEM fields.
PRESENT AND FUTURE
We are excited to recruit and meet new members. We have a lot of plans for the organization and for members. Please feel free to join our organization and attend meetings if possible with your schedule.
Events yet to be scheduled will be determined with the election of a new e-board, including resume workshops, GRE strategies, student panels, guest speakers, stargazing excursions, and many others. Please attend as many meetings as possible and stay tuned for updates and check the Events page!

Special Note
Although we are Women in STEM, male students are welcome to join us as well. As a Registered Student Organization (RSO) on WMU's campus, we follow a strict non-discrimination policy. We are advocating to prevent ignorance through education so that we may one day achieve equality in the classroom, in the workplace, and in society.
